Hamas is a Palestinian Islamist political and military organisation founded in 1987 as an offshoot of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. It has governed the Gaza Strip since 2007 and is designated as a terrorist organisation by the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, and other governments, primarily for attacks against Israeli civilians.
The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) is India's primary counterterrorism statute. Originally enacted in 1967 to address separatist movements, it has been substantially amended in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2019. The 2019 amendment, controversially, empowered the government to designate individuals (not only organisations) as terrorists without judicial pre-approval.

Coordinated suicide bombings targeting Christian churches and luxury hotels in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019, killed 269 people and injured over 500 others. The attacks were carried out by National Thowheed Jamath, a domestic Islamist group with alleged links to the Islamic State.
